MITCHELL, S.D. – DWU Athletic Training major Natalie Gottlob, Salem, has always had an interest in history.  During her time as a student at Dakota Wesleyan, Gottlob has pursued that interest by taking various classes and reading on her own. When her schedule did not allow her to attend a lecture event held in 2019 featuring a Holocaust survivor, she was upset to have missed out. To try and make up for it, Gottlob and the DWU History Club took it upon themselves to contact the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D.C. to ask if they had an education outreach program.

The museum informed the group that they do provide speakers and, as a result, DWU will host a live Zoom presentation with a Holocaust survivor telling their story. There will be an opportunity to submit questions to the survivor.

The event is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 6 p.m. in the School of Business, Innovation and Leadership’s Pratt Alumni Board Room.  Due to museum policy, a viewer must attend in person rather than logging in remotely.  The event is free.

Gottlob is excited about the event.  “I believe that history in itself can be so unappreciated, even forgotten.  Holocaust survivors are getting older.  It is our job to listen to their stories, for them to tell those stories and for us to absorb the significance of the time period.  The fact that they are willing to do this for DWU and bring this remotely to Mitchell, South Dakota, means a lot.”

The speaker’s name will be released prior to the event. For more information, email natalie.gottlob18@dwu.edu.
