MITCHELL HOMETOWN HERO BANNER PROJECT 
3rd Wave Now Open | ALL Service Members Welcome!

The Mitchell Hometown Hero Banner Project is a community driven initiative dedicated to honoring the men and women from Mitchell & Beyond Mitchell who have proudly served or are currently serving in the United States Armed Forces.

This community initiative is hosted by Mitchell Main Street & Beyond.

Each personalized banner features a local service member’s name, photograph, and branch of service, creating a lasting tribute to the courage, sacrifice, and commitment of our Mitchell Hometown Heroes. 

The 3rd Wave is NOW OPEN to ALL Service Members!
*Service Members from Mitchell & Beyond our community are welcome*

We welcome submissions for:
• Active Duty
• National Guard
• Reserve
• Veterans

Anyone who would like to have a banner honoring a service member displayed along Mitchell’s Main Street is encouraged to participate. Submission deadline is November 30th, 2026. Installation Date: Spring of 2027.

A Growing Community Tribute

The first wave of 39 banners is currently in production and includes members of the 665th Support Maintenance Company, the 147th Army Band, and active service members from Mitchell area units.

A second wave of 18 banners was completed in September 2026. Honoring service members from the Mitchell community.
Our goal is to continue expanding this meaningful program and creating a lasting tribute throughout our community for years to come.

SUBMISSION INFORMATION
After submitting the information form, participants will receive a follow-up email. Please submit through the drop box portal.

By submitting a photo, you acknowledge that you have obtained the service member’s permission to participate in the Mitchell Hometown Hero Banner Program.

Please submit the highest quality photo possible. Clear, high resolution photos will produce the best banner. Please no photos of photos. We are here to help. Please email MMSDirector@MitchellSD.com
